Lahana

Conceptual note on Nepalbhasa program

UNN broadcast an hour-long program in Nepalbhasa entitled "Lahana" from 10:00 am to 11:00 am everyday of the week. The program includes "Nepa: Bukhan", the news in Nepalbhasa for the initial 10 minutes that entertains local activities of the Newar community along with the mainstream events. The rest of the hour comprises programs on Newar culture, literature, lifestyle and other issues that concern Newars, both politically and non-politically.

Objective of programs in Nepalbhasa

• The main objective of Nepalbhasa program in UNN is to build awareness and empower Newars politically, socially and economically.

• The program intends to inform, update and educate Newars with the symbolic representation of traditional Newar rites, rituals, art and architecture.

• It also aims to provide a forum for the Newars to express their views on local and national issues.

Program schedule for the week

Sunday
छिगु च्वसां पिज्व:गु स: : Program on Nepalbhasa literature. We entertain calls from listeners to recite their literary creations. We have also introduced book reviews in the program.

Monday
लिसवा: Interview with senior citizens who have made contributions to various sectors of the society.

Tuesday
तप्यंक स्वापू: A call-in program aimed at gathering opinion of Newars on current affairs and issues that concern Newars and their occupation.

Wednesday
झीगु सम्पदा : A program on Nepalese history and cultural heritages of Newars. We look into the philosophical aspects of long-practiced tradition, rites and rituals of Newars, along with art, architecture and their symbolic representations.

Thursday
लोकंह्वा:गु स: : Interview with prominent figures from a range of fields including politics, art, culture, entertainment, etc.

Friday
थुगु वालय् : Weekly update on the events of the country. We include political and non-political events and issues in the program.

Saturday
इनाप म्ये : Request program. We play songs requested by the listeners.
